A frothy mixture of marker and white-out on rag paper.

Sorry, I had to.

Licking the Sproutage

Pen on rag paper.

A friendly. scaly creature with a long nose licks the sproutage of anatomical features.

Ninja Magic gives smartphone user robot feet

Here's a quick one I drew a few weeks ago.  More to come soon.  Enjoy!

This was done with pen, marker, and colored pencil on drawing paper.

Exploring The Paper Cave

Created with AD Chartpak markers on drawing paper.

A lizard in a dark green hat explores a cross-sectioned cave in a paper bag, flame in hand, while a gray smiley looks on from the background.

Your mama always told you not to play on the railing while inebriated

From a chef-inspired recipe.  That recipe being the loud-ass banging and thumping from upstairs.  Created with pen and markers on drawing paper.

Sproutage

I drew this with pen and marker on rag paper.  Legs crossing over legs and tails in a chaotic manner just led to all sorts of facial elements and appendages popping out every which way.

An Honest Day's Work

Drawn with marker and pen on rag paper.
An honest day's work, for an honest day's pay (as determined by the head office).  The hockey-masked man shovels an intestine into a bucket so gearface can pay him.  A vegetable plate left over from a management meeting sits on the table.

Skull in Borrowed Territory

An homage to Tim Biskup, created entirely with marker on drawing paper.  I find his work very inspiring.

Power Outages

Last night, we had one heckuva storm wreak all sorts of havok all over Greensboro and the surrounding areas.  Kat and I have been lucky to only have to deal with a power outage that may last a few days.  I've heard about some buildings that now have to be demolished because of the damage.  My heart goes out to those folks.  Anyways, it's kind of hard to draw in the dark, but I may yet have a few minutes tomorrow night to bust something out.  If it's worth posting, I'll find a way to share it.

lots of love to you all,
Jeff

Hammered and Hung Over

Marker and pen on rag paper
This canary is pretty badly hungover, and it's coming out on both ends and mixing together. He needs to put the hammer down and take the day off.

Untitled, aka Quite Two-Sided

Pen and marker on drawing paper.  Half-man, Half-psychedelic-mess.  Inspired by someone who looks in person to me like he was created by Peter Max.

Todd Trainer Jazz Time

Drawn with marker and colored pen.  The drummer for Shellac plays his kit with a hammer and a sword while a member of the blue man group (wearing non-blue clothing) blows sausage links out of a modified trumpet.

He's not a mirror image, his hands are on backwards

This is a recent drawing of a cartoon-y guy made entirely from colored pens on drawing paper.  Anyway, I drew his hands backwards and thought for a moment that maybe he's a mirror image of himself, but obviously a mirror wouldn't work quite like that.

All Consumes All, Radiates Uncertainty

Marker and pen on rag paper.

I drew this checker-faced monster while in a dark mood.  Note that some of his chakras putting out the wrong colors.  Everyone's about to eat everyone.

My portrait of Louis C.K.

Various colored pens and markers on drawing paper.

Louis C.K. is a recent hero of mine.  I hope to have done him at least a shred of justice.  I know his hair is supposed to be red, but black and brown pens are what I had on hand at the time.

The Walls Have Eyes, And They Are Crying

Marker and pen on bristol board.

I drew this crying eye on a wall between sound-checking some bands, and showtime.  No deep meaning, unless you want to read into it.

chicken leg playin' guitar man

Pen and marker on drawing paper.

I honestly intended to have him hold a guitar, but he ended up holding a chicken leg instead.  I'm glad.

Don't look back too closely.

My second fake album cover. A pen-and-marker drawing of Bob Dylan sidestepping that whole Basement Tapes/The Band era, and opting for the Elvis-y Las Vegas performer thing, just in case going electric didn't piss off the folk purists enough.  Here's the cover for a live album from the late 60's/early 70's.  No back cover.  Sorry.

If Ziggy Zagged instead of Zigged

My first fake album cover, drawn with pen and marker.

If David Bowie had decided to go in a country-ish direction in the mid 70's (instead of his plastic soul adventures), this is the album cover he probably would have had.

This is the back cover with the would-be credits and track listing.  I'll be that collaboration with Ry Cooder would be a phenomenal piece of work.

Shadow under the panic

by Jeff Irving
Pen and marker on marker paper

1st post....testing

Hello everybody.  Welcome to my art blog.  I will be posting various drawings, paintings, and other artings here for your viewing pleasure.  I also have prints of some of these pieces, and will shortly set up shop for your purchasing pleasure.  Other insanities may yet manifest on this corner of the interweb as well.  I'll get some actual content up shortly.
